Spades are always trump in this card game, hence the name. Hands start off with a bidding round, where you bid how many tricks you expect to make that hand. Earn points for each trick made, as long as your team makes their bid. For example, if you bid 3 and your partner bids 4, the two of you need to make 7 tricks combined, for 70 points (10 x 7 tricks). Failure to make your bid will cost you points, which is equal to 10 x your bid. Be careful not to take more tricks than your bid, or you get overbooks which will cost you points after reaching 10 of them.
